This country dance and tune was printed in the first edition of John Playford's "English Dancing Master''' (London, 1651), and was retained in subsequent editions of the long-running series through the 8th edition of 1690, after which it was dropped. It is a companion tune, of sorts, to his "Chirping of the Lark," the tune just prior.
