'''WATERFORD WALTZ.''' Irish, Waltz. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. An early example of a waltz. The title can be found in O'Farrell's c. 1810 '''Pocket Companion, vol. IV''', one of several tunes with County Waterford connections in his volumes.  Little is known about uilleann piper O’Farrell, save that he spent some years playing on the London stage around the turn of the 19th century, but the Waterford titles suggest he may have hailed from the county, or knew it well. Philippe Varlet reports that the tune was reintroduced by Micheal O'Suilleabhain's early band Oro Damhnaigh on a 1977 Gael-Linn LP and has since been recorded by the Boys of the Lough and Gerard Trimble.
