Breathnach (1976) finds the tune under the title "[[Celebrated Opera Reel (The)]]" in a manuscript from Tipperary. Paul de Grae remarks the tune can be found in '''Ryan's Mammoth Collection''' (1883) as "[[Chorus Jig (1)]]," and is related to "[[Chorus Reel]]" family of tunes (also including "[[Glen Road to Carrick (The)]]" and "[[On the Road]]"). Another Slaibh Luachra title is "[[Quinn's Reel]]," says Paul, "one of several of that title named for the Cordal flute player John Quinn, from whom (fiddler) Pádraig O'Keeffe got much music."
