"Tartes aux pommes" is another tune that uses a "floating" first stain that can be traced back to the first strain of "[[Aldridge's Hornpipe (1)]]," named for the famous latter 18th century stage dancer, Richard Aldridge. The strain was used in a number of tunes, each with different second strains, including "King of all Reels," "[[Leviathan Hornpipe]]," "[[Prairie Hornpipe]]," "[[Big Mountain Hornpipe]]" and others. Allard researcher Jean Duval finds "Reel tartes aux pommes" cognate with "[[Lardner's Reel (1)]]" in '''Ryan's Mammoth Collection''' (1883), but here too,
