VESTRIS' HORNPIPE. AKA - "Vestri's Hornpipe." English, Hornpipe. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Can be used as a Clog" (Cole). Ryan's title, "Vestri's Hornpipe", misplaces the apostrophe, for the title probably refers to English actress, dancer and singer Madame Vestris [1] (1797-1856), who produced comedies and extravaganzas at the elegant little theatre, the Olympic, in the 1830’s, after he own stellar career as a dancer and singer. However there were other famous dancers in the Vestris family, who graced stages in London and Paris. See note for "Vestris' Gavotte" for more on the family. The hornpipe was entered as "Vestris' Hornpipe" in the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of Manchester, England, musician biography:John Roose.
