Breathnach collected the tune from musician Tom Kearns. The tune is cognate with James Goodman's "[[Drummond Lasses (The)]]," albeit with the parts reversed. The second strain of "Lackey's" is cognate with the first strain of Edward Riley's "[[Duvil's Hornpipe]]" is also cognate (though transposed for the flute), but the second strains differ.
