Composed by William Marshall (1748–1833) of Keithmore, near Fochabers, Banffshire. Sir Harry Niven Lumsden had the good fortune to inherit the estate of Clova from a rich uncle (Cowie, '''The Life and Times of William Marshall''', 1999). Lumsden married Harriet Christian Leith, daughter of Alexander Leith-Hay (1758–1838) of Rannes and Leith Hall, "General Sandie".
