'''SLEEP SOOND I'DA MOARNIN'.''' AKA and see "[[Gutters o Skeld (The)]]." Shetland, Shetland Reel. A Dorian (Shaw) or A Mixolydian. Standard, ADae or AEae tunings (fiddle). AB (Shuldham-Shaw): AA’B (Martin, Martin & Hughes), AABB (Williamson): AABB' (Brody, Cooke {Ex. 49b}): AA'BB' (Cooke {Ex. 49a}). Known all over the Shetland isles (Cooke). "Much played on the islands...a fairly typical Shetland reel" (Boys of the Lough). Christine Martin (2002) says the tune is known as “Da Gutters o’ Skeld” on the west side of Shetland and the northern island of Yell. Some see a similarity between Appalachian fiddler Burl Hammonds’ high part of “[[Washington's March (3)]]” and the second strain of “Sleep Soond.”
