In mythology, Zephyr was gentle wind of the west and the interceder between the World of the living and the Underworld, who fell in love with Flora, a nymph of flowers and springtime. The tune appears in London publisher John Young's '''Second Volume of the Dancing Master''', 3rd edition (1718), and was retained for the 4th edition of 1728. It was also published in London by Walsh and Hare in their ''' Second Book of the Compleat Country Dancing-Master''' (1719).
