Joyce printed one verse only of the song (which for most of the tune meanders in minor mode, resolving to the relative major at the cadence): <blockquote> '' 'Tis not your gold would me entice''<br> ''To marry you against my friends’ advice;''<br> ''And I never do intend at all''<br> ''To be away from my mother’s call;''<br> ''And I never do intend at all''<br> ''To be away from my mother’s call!''<br> </Blockquote> The song cannot be located prior to Joyce's 1873 collection save for Boston publisher Elias Howe's publication, indicating perhaps that the heretofore approximate dating of the latter should be from a later date.
Source for notated version:	Taken down in 1854 from the singing of Peggy Cudmore, Glenosheen, Co. Limerick, "a girl of about thirteen years of age" [Joyce].
