'''BOTHWELL CASTLE'''. Scottish, Slow Strathspey. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The tune was composed by Nathaniel Gow (1763-1831). It is considered one of his better, but lesser-known compositions, opines Emmerson (1971), agreeing with the collector John Glen (1895) who listed it as among those of Gow's "exceedingly good compositions." Bothwell Castle lies southeast of Glasgow, in Scotland's Clyde region; in fact, the Clyde runs along the north side of the structure. It was built in 1242 by Walter of Moray, although it was never finished.

''Printed source:'' MacDonald ('''The Skye Collection'''), 1887; p. 189.
----
X:1 T:Bothwell Castle L:1/8 M:C S:MacDonald - Skye Collection Z:AK/Fiddler's Companion K:Bb D>EF>E DB~Bd|D>EF>D (A,/C/F/A/) (cd)|D>E (F/>E/)(F/>E/) DBfd|(e/d/)c/B/ (A/g/)f/e/ dBB:| ~f|d'>c'/2b/2 (3a/g/f/ (3e/d/c/ B~fd~b|f/>d/b/>f/ d'/>b/ (f/d/B/ Acc~f| d'>c' {c'}b/a/b/g/ {g}(f/=e/)f/g/ a/f/g/a/|(b/g/)a/b/ (c'/a/)(b/g/) fbb b/>c'/| d'/(b/a/)b/ c'/(a/g/)a/ b/(a/^f/)g/ a/(=f/^e/)f/|g/(e/d/)e/ (f/B/)(g/B/) Acc (f/2g/2a/)| [d2b2] [e2g2] [Ac][Af] d (B/2c/2d/)|e>d (3c/d/B/ (3A/B/G/ (FB)B||
----
'''© 1996-2010 Andrew Kuntz.
