got it, I'm so used to thinking in abc I didn't realize you meant the title on the page.

You can use brackets in the abc's themselves or anywhere there's a narrative. However, the title line on the template only accepts parentheses. If you try to enter a tune on that line "Blacksmith [The]" it will not save the page, but if you enter "Blacksmith (The)" it will save. This is independent of what you put in the abc's-- for example, you can have a T:Blacksmith [2], The and it won't effect anything. I do that all the time. I'm just talking about the first Title bar in the template. BTW I removed The Blacksmith until the composer can give permission.

Thank you I wondered about that, I tried to replace The Blacksmith with a different tune because I realized the composer is still living. I can't seem to find the recording that I'd heard Bill Quern playing it, but had noted he credited T.Hobart Smith with it, I just foundout it is Bill Smith a living banjo player who wrote it.

Another quirk of the wiki format is that the "Title:" line does not accept brackets "[ ]". To indicate a tune with the same name that is different from the others you need to use parentheses "( )", as in "Blacksmith (5) (The)". If you use the brackets the wiki program will not allow you to save a new title.

Hi Paul, if I can mention a few more conventions for entries-- The naming convention for tune titles is to put all articles in parentheses at the end. For example, your tune "The Wind Blew High" was changed to "Wind Blew High (The)". Since the index is alphabetical, we would have huge files starting with 'A', 'An', 'The' etc., otherwise. This is just for the "Title:" line when you first enter a tune in the template. Similarly, we omit commas in titles on that line, so your title "Blacksmith, The" was changed to "Blacksmith (The)." The commas also confound the alphabetical listings.

"Jeff Sturgeon" - Leaving the rest of the coding intact, you need to insert your abc's right after the in this format. <section begin= X1> <section end= X1> With your abc's in the middle. Open up "Jeff Sturgeon" with the "edit" and you can see how they should be arranged.

Leave the other coding intact, and just insert, as above.

Good Question. Knowing Alan a bit I'm pretty sure he'd be delighted to have others play his tunes. He did let someone else post it on FB, but it is always polite to ask 1st. So I should check with him.

Paul, do you know if Alan Kaufman gives permission to post his composition on the TTA? We honor copyrights, and would gladly post new tunes, but only with the composer's permission.

So glad you asked, Paul. When you want to add a tune or information, first search to see if the tune has already been added. If not, go ahead, as you did with "Cabell County" and some others, which were not in the TTA before. Welcome additions! If there already is a tune and you'd like to add more abc's or information, go to the bar at the top of the page headed by "Traditional Tune Archive" followed by "Upload file". Just to the right of that, you'll see "Edit". Click on the "Edit" to open up the template for the existing tune. Scroll down the page to "Score" and you'll see where abc's have been added. To add new abc's to the existing entry you'll need to insert this code: <section begin=X1 > X:1 T: M: L: Z: K: <section end=X1> although you'll replace the abc headings with that actual abc's you want to enter. When you're done, hit "Save Page" button at the bottom of the template. You'll get the hang of it in no time! ~Andy
