Hi Andrew, thanks, it's complete now...Cheers, Jan

Jan, I'm sorry about that, I missed the notice to approve the changes. Should be OK now. BTW, the TTA wiki format automatically gives you editorial rights after you make 50 entries (which can be tunes or comments, as long as there are 50 separate pages you're adding to). After that, your entries will no longer be 'pended' for review, and you'll be able to contribute without that nuisance.

Hi Andrew, I've done another version of Chris Haigh's Moonshine Kate from a field recording of Rachel Eddy, Adam Hurt, Beth Hartness and others at Clifftop on 31st July 2015....Chris Haigh himself has heard the recording and really liked it. Everytime I look for it on TTA it says Pending Changes....there's going to be an article about Moonshine Kate in the UK Friends of American Old-Time Music and Dance (FOAOTMAD) magazine Old-Time News alongside my article on abc notation and Traditional Tune Archive....

Best wishes, Jan

Thanks Jan, for both the correction and the article. I'd love to see it when it comes out. I've confirmed the edit.

Hi Andrew, Chris Haigh has confirmed that he wrote the tune Moonshine Kate and published it in his book "Fiddling Around the World". I've amended the notes to reflect this fact now, so hopefully he'll get the proper credit for the tune. I think the edits are pending now.

I've also written an article for Old Time News here in the UK about abc notation and the Traditional Tune Archive website. When it gets published I'll send you a copy.

Thanks again for all your good works! Cheers, Jan

Was that Goldrush? Thanks....I've been told that the Moonshine Kate tune I put up here a while ago wasn't actually written by Fiddlin' John Carson at all...it comes from a book by Chris Haigh apparently. I'll check with Chris Haigh and amend my transcription accordingly. Thanks for all your good works! Cheers, Jan

Hi Andrew, I hope everything is alright with you...I'd posted up a transcription of Gold Rush but it doesn't get past the Pending Changes stage. Thanks, Jan

though it seems to have picked up some long slurs across the 4th and 6th rows of music.....i tdoesn't look like that in my abc editor

Thanks Andrew...I'm very pleased! And, I've realised what I've been doing wrong by inserting abc between the begin and end sections....I've been forgetting to add more begin and ends for the next person to add another transcription....I'll try to remember that. Cheers, Jan....and Seasons' Greetings

Nice job on the abc's for "Silver Lake", Jan. Work of art.

Hi Jan. -- Thanks for the notice. Everything in the TTA can be reconstructed, repaired, adapted, etc. as the page history is available. The Foghorn version is essentially the same tune, so I included it in the original entry--great to have your abc's for the tune! The Hamblon collection is rather quirky in the original form, so other interpretations of the Hamblon tunes are most welcome.

Hi Abdrew, I was trying to add another version of Chadwell's Station to the one that already exists, but I couldn't work out how to do the section begin and section end code...sorry.

Hi Andrew, is there a chance of finishing my inclusion of Josie-O? I keep looking to see whether I can pass the link onto the other students who were in my tutor group with Craig Judelman, but it keeps saying Pending Changes and I can't send them a relevant link.

Cheers, Jan

Hi Andrew, here's the link to a video of Craig Judelman Josie-O so that you can see the bow strokes he uses....I hope I've interpreted them properly in my transcription of Josie-O that I uploaded. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zFl5oF0DeNvf4OJ1OHoX3hZtXnZ3g_og/view?usp=sharing

Hi Andrew, Yes Craig Judelman says I can share the video of him playing Double File...here's the link https://drive.google.com/file/d/13JSQl9qWx8320PJGGAVy3J_5Y0lo0jPO/view?usp=sharing

I've done Josie-O as well but it doesn't appear yet...is there a problem with my abc again? Thanks, Jan

It would be interesting to see a video, pending seeking permission from Mr. J. I haven't had much luck on my own trying to interpret the bowing.

Hi Andrew, Craig Judelman was teaching us about circular bowing and I think that's how he's doing the up up bows and down down bows.....I've got the videos of him showing us the tunes, if you'd like to see them? I'll check with him first if I can share them with you. CHeers, Jan

Glad to have "John Riley" in the index, Jan. Thanks so much for posting. The problem you were having is that the abc's you entered had an "r:" field for notes on the tune. The abc program we use at the TTA doesn't recognize the 'r:' but the 'notes' field in the abc's can be changed to "N:" line heading and it works fine. I substituted 'N:' for the 'r:' in your abc's, and voila. You can hit the 'edit' button at the top of the tune to see what I mean.

I see there's some interesting bowing directions in Mr. Judelman's version of the tunes. "Double File" has, at one point, two up bows followed by two down-bows. I'll have to try that out to see if it works for me. Interesting!

Hi Andrew,

I’ve been to a fiddle camp and learned some new tunes from Craig Judelman…’Double File’ from Gaither Carlton and ‘John Riley the Shepherd’ from Art Stamper.

I’ve tried to transcribe the tunes as Craig taught them from his videos, but I’ve had problems when trying to copy and paste my abc texts.

Double File still shows just the original transcription and not my new alternative version, and John Riley the Shepherd has some random notes sequences appearing before the tune proper.

How can I fix these things?

Thanks, and Best wishes, Jan

Jan Howard

Hi Jan, There was already a "Fun's All Over" (in the TTA as "Fun's All Over (1) (The)"). So as not to duplicate titles, I moved your transcription over to the entry that was already there. There were a number of transcriptions already there, and I added yours at the end (scroll down). Your versions is a nice one! I think it would help to look up a tune in "The Index" or in the Search function so as not to duplicate existing titles.
