Ah, that's a good suggestion. Thank you!

Yes, the abc reader used in the TTA is confused by some applications of the < > symbols. Some configurations go through OK but some don't. I write strathspey abcs with the L: set at 1/16 to negate the need for the < > symbols, as in: X:1 T:Mr. Oddbody M:C L:1/16 K:A A3b c3d efed e4|A3b A3E ABAF E4| etc.

I've found another possible computer glitch: https://tunearch.org/wiki/Mrs._James_McInnes'_Strathspey—Edinburgh

The first bar of the 4th line seems to be the problematic one. When I remove the < > symbols, it appears correctly. I've had similar problems with dotted rhythms before, but I've managed to solve them by changing the beaming. Do you know what the problem could be?

Thanks! I'll have a play with it. It will come in handy.

Thanks to you, and especially to wiki-wizard Valerio, the query functionality bug has been fixed! You brought it to our attention, and Valero identified the bug(s) and fixed them, not only for the book title but for other query functions that were affected as well. Try it out, if you would, and see if it works for you.

No worries! I used to volunteer doing this kind of work at IMSLP and I enjoy it.

That looks terrific, Tippy! I'm not sure why that part of the query function does not work, but it would certainly be helpful if it did! I'll ask Valerio to look into it to see if he can improve the functionality, as he has the tech expertise with the wiki that I lack. In the meantime, I like your solution very much, although it would be quite a task to do the same for the larger collections (O'Neill's Music of Ireland -- 1750 melodies!). Still, it is quite useful to imbed a spreadsheet such as you have done, and certainly an enhancement for the TTA.

Hi Andrew, sorry for all the questions!

I've been using the "Query the Archive" search but when I search using the Book/Manuscript function I don't get any results. Is there a way of seeing all the contents of a particular collection in one place? I saw on O'Neill's collection page (https://tunearch.org/wiki/Book:Music_of_Ireland:_1850_Melodies) that there is an option to add a tunes list, but I haven't been able to find an example of this being done.

Yes, I've noticed the difference in spellings. However, like most things in the TTA, it can be corrected/altered, which I've done. The bio page should link now to "Mackintosh". However, I read that Abraham spelled his name differently than his father and that "MacIntosh" or "Macintosh" was his preference. I didn't make a note of where I read that in the TTA bio (drat!) and I can't recall where that piece of information came from. Until it can be cleared up and verified, now both spellings will link to the bio page.

I noticed that the page numbers of Ross tunes you have here are off by one, at least compared with the NLS (1869) scan. Strange!. I'll get around to that collection eventually.

While I'm here, the composer page for Abraham Mackintosh uses an alternate spelling of his name; "MacIntosh." The majority of his tunes have been filed under "Mackintosh", so they don't link to the composer page. Is there a way to fix it? https://tunearch.org/wiki/Biography:Abraham_MacIntosh

Mysteries solved! I suppose there are different editions of Ross' HB collection and that NLS and Ceol Scan have different ones. Yes, I do use the 'search within' function, but didn't think to do it this time. Thanks for reminding me about it.

Hi Andrew, you're correct about Amix. It somehow didn't click right away that I was looking at pipe notation, but I changed it back as soon as I realised. I found it on p.97 of the scan at the National Library of Scotland: https://digital.nls.uk/special-collections-of-printed-music/archive/104973329.

I'm sure you know it already, but their digitised collection is so comprehensive and the "search within" function on their site is a great way to find multiple versions of the same tune.

Hi Tippy. I'm curious, why do you think "Forbes March" is in A minor? Ross's pipe collection has no accidentals in the key signatures, which means to me that the key "defaults" to the two sharps of the Highland bagpipe, or the mixolydian mode, in this case. On the other hand, I just tried finding "Forbes March" in Ross's 1869 collection at Ceol Scan https://ceolsean.net/content/WRoss/WRoss_TOC.html and I couldn't find it listed!~ So, there's not only a mystery about the key, but where it came from!

Hi Tippy. Thanks for the notice about the duplicates. I've collapsed all the entries into "Honorable Mrs. Campbell of Lochnell" with redirects for the other title. I removed the "Mr. Campbell of Lochnell" title altogether, as it is spurious (no such title exists in Athole, rather, its "Mrs." instead of "Mr.". I've left a place for you to enter Mackintosh's original tune at the top of the abc's in the entry, between the and , which will insure that his original tune appears first. As you've undoubtedly noticed, I try to have the tunes placed in chronological order in the index, with the oldest appearing first. As for "Miss Dr. Grant's Reel", I've left a link only until a source can be verified for the tune by that title. My rule of thumb is that entries should be separated if they are distinct tune variants, or the titles are unique (and not just a variation on the main title). Otherwise, its best just to collapse entries and supply a link, also adding an explanation or clarifying note on the annotation page. Please go ahead and correct any mistakes you find, or to edit in any way. It's a public wiki and built for contributors to make edits/corrections/additions/deletions etc. Any mistakes in that process can be reversed, so please be encouraged to edit as you see fit. Thank you very much for your contributions to the TTA so far, and I hope you'll continue to help build (and make more accurate) the TTA.

Hi Andrew,

I am not sure if this is the best place to ask for help, but I have a few questions.

I found a tune which has been duplicated three times and was wondering if there is a way of combining them? Or is it enough to link between them?

https://tunearch.org/wiki/Mrs._Campbell_of_Lochnell https://tunearch.org/wiki/Mr._Campbell_of_Lochnell https://tunearch.org/wiki/Honorable_Mrs._Campbell_of_Lochnell

I was about to add a transcription of Red Rob's original publication (1793) where it is titled "Honorable Mrs. Campbell of Lochnell's Reel."

There are some mistakes in the Athole transcription, is it wrong to correct them?

I also mistakenly created this duplicate - I forgot about Mackintosh's penchant for 6/8 reels. There isn't a source given for the "Reel" version, so I'm not sure which one came first. https://tunearch.org/wiki/Miss_Grant's_Quickstep https://tunearch.org/wiki/Miss_Dr._Grant's_Reel

Thanks for such a great resource! I'm enjoying contributing to it and I hope I can give back in some way.
