Reel écossais (La)

REEL ÉCOSSAIS, LA (The Scottish Reel). AKA - "Danse écossaise." AKA and see "Miss Drummond of Perth (1)." French-Canadian, Scottish; Strathspey. A Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BCC'BCC'. "Reel écossais" is Montreal fiddler Jospeh Allard's (1873-1947) version of the Scottish strathspey "Miss Drummond of Perth (1)," played quickly, almost at reel speed. Allard's 1928 recording was re-released in 1946 as "Danse écossaise." Jean Duval [1] points out that the strathspey can be found in several older recorded versions in Quebec (some quite distanced from the original), including Isidore Soucy's "Trois corbeaux (Les)."
