He asked for suggestions from the audience, and this is the one he chose. The tune was first recorded by fiddler Kenny Baker in 1972.

Written by the 'Father of Bluegrass', Kentucky mandolinist Bill Monroe, and named for Whitehorse Mountain, a prominent peak near Darrington, Washington.
