Composed by Kirkton, Ontario, fiddler Ward Allen (1924–1965), who won contest after contest in Canada in the 1950's and who had a successful career playing over the radio and recording. "Maple Sugar" was his first and biggest hit, and perhaps "Back to the Sugar Camp" was titled to ride on the popularity of that composition. Graham Townsend was his protege.
