"If I had a Nickel" is Braxton County, West Virginia, fiddler Melvin Wine's (1909-2003) version of the tune usually call "Johnny/Gippy Get Your Hair Cut," recorded in the 78 RPM era by the Kessingers Brothers (also from West Virginia). Wine introduced the tune in performance with the couplet:
