LANCIER D'EMILIE, LE. French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BBCC'. The reel, also (by the title) a quadrille part, appears in J.A. Boucher's 1927 unprinted music collection, the precursor to his 1933 printed volume, albeit under the title "Gai luron"[1]. Researcher Jean Duval believes this may be a composition by Boucher, and points to the third strain of the tune, which is different in the 1927 and 1933 versions of his collection. The third strain of 1927 is very similar to the first strain of fiddler Fortunat Malouin's "Reel de Rivière-du-Loup", and Duval posits that Boucher changed the third strain of his "Lancier..." for the 1933 volume as a result.
Duval also notes a passing resemblance to the Irish reel "Farrell O'Gara's Favorite Reel"/"Last Night's Fun (1)"/"Macroom Lasses" (O'Neill, 1907, no. 496), remarking, "The first three beats of the A section are identical to those of the B section of Macroom Lasses and the beginning of the C section is the same as that of the A section."
- ↑ Duval found that many of the tunes in the 1927 collection had their titles changed for the 1933 volume.
