Biographical notes
MATILDA MURDOCH (1920-2019) was a revered New Brunswick fiddler and composer born in Loggieville, near Miramichi. She learned to play the fiddle at the age of 9 and played, performed and composed throughout her life, and her compositions numbered into the hundreds. Many of her tunes were 'covered' by other musicians, including several by Don Messer who had Matilda make made multiple appearances on his Don Messer’s Jubilee. She was inducted into the Order of Canada and the Order of New Brunswick, received the ECMA Stompin' Tom Award (2002), and was honored with a lifetime achievement award from Music New Brunswick in 2016.
