Composed by Pipe Major Peter MacLeod in honor of Pipe-Major Sam Scott of the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa, who piped troops ashore in 1944 during the Allied invasion of the beaches of Normandy. Scott was one of few pipers to play on the Normandy beaches on D-Day; he also served as a machine-gunner and a stretcher-bearer. Scott mustered out at the end of the war. He died in 1972 in an automobile accident.
