Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was characterized in CBC Programs in the mid-1940's as "an Irish Reel" in radio performances by Don Messer and his Islanders and by Jimmy Growling and his orchestra. It was recorded as "Reilly's Own" as the last tune of a set of reels recorded in 1924 by fiddler J.B. Roy (along with "Miss McLeod's Reel," "McDonald's Reel," "The Chopman," "Guilderoy" and "All Set"). An even earlier recording of "Reilly's Own" is to be found as part of a medley of fiddle tunes on an Edison Gold Moulded Record #8993 (cylinder recording)  played by violinist Eugene A. Jaudas in 1905. The tune was also in the recorded repertoire of Halton "Dick" Richardson, country dancing master, fiddler and prompter in Vermont and the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire from 1903 until 1970.
