ROUT [2]. THE. AKA - "Rout has come (The)." AKA and see "Royal Quickstep (1)." English, American; Country Dance Tune or March (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABA. See note for "Rout" for explanation of the title. "The Rout [2]" appears as "The Rout" in G. Graupner's Boston-published Cotillions and Country Dances No. 2 (1808), and two of Boston publisher Elias Howe's mid-19th century collections, but was originally called "Royal Quickstep (1)." Under the latter title it appears in late 18th century publications and musicians' manuscripts in England and America. The alternate title, "The Rout has come" is found with the tune in the music manuscript collections of James Rook (1840, Waverton, Cumbria, p. 110), and in the Campbell ms. (No. 42a, p. 21).
