MRS. DRUMMOND OF LOGIEALMOND. Scottish, Reel. E Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Surenne): AAB (Gow, Stewart-Robertson). Composed by Niel Gow (1727-1807). Logiealmond or Logie Almond, Perthshire, was a settlement in Glen Almond, on the River Almond, about 8 miles northwest of Perth city. A branch of the Drummond family had an estate at Logiealomond, most famously Sir William Drummond (1780-1828), a politician, ambassador (to the Ottoman Empire, succeeding Lord Elgin), poet and philosopher (whose most famous work was the metaphysical Academical Questions, 1805). Sir William’s lasting quote is “He who will not reason is a bigot; he who cannot is a fool; and he who dares not is a slave.” He succeeded his father as 5th larid of Logiealmond in 1781 but did not marry, thus 'Mrs. Drummond' probably refers to his mother, Lady Catharine Murray, the sister of John Drummond, Earl of Dunmore.
