The tune appears in the music manuscript collection of Captain Angus J. MacNeil, Gillis Point, Cape Breton, compiled around the year 1915. According to Shears (1986), MacNeil was an officer-piper with the 94th Regiment, Victoria Battalion, organized for home defense during World War I.
