This jig was collected in 1967 by Breandan Breathnach from Molly Myers Murphy, who had been a student of the renowned fiddler Tom Billy Murphy. Originally from Killeagh near Farranfore, Co. Kerry, she married Tom Billy's nephew Willy Murphy and lived thereafter in Glencollins near Ballydesmond, Co. Cork. According to Breathnach's notes, Mrs. Murphy had no name for the tune, but he indicated it was known as "I Ne'er Shall Wean Her" in Cork, and published it with that title translated into Irish.
