CAPTAIN BLUETT'S MARCH. AKA and see "Captain Reid's Delight," "Dorsetshire March (The)," "Third Buffs March (The)," "Grand March of Normal (1)," "Russian (Grand) March." Irish, March. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Fr. John Quinn links Roche's "Captain Bluett's" with British military marches "Captain Reid's Delight," "Third Buffs March (The)," and "Dorsetshire March (The)," popular particularly under the latter title since the mid-18th century.

Compare the first strain to Bellini's "Grand March from the Opera of "Norma"," a popular 19th century march that sometimes appears in fiddlers' manuscript books as "Grand March of Norman (1)," or "Grand March of Normal (1)." The interval movement in the first two bars is quite similar to that of "Bluett's," albeit a sixth apart, and the entire marches are structurally similar.
