Compare with "[[Bartholomew Fair]]" and "[[Whim (1) (The)]]." This jig tune was widely known in Scotland and Northumberland under various names, and published for the bagpipe in 1822. "The older form [ed.: i.e. "[[Whim (1) (The)]]") has a peculiar metre of three-bar phrases, evidently dictated by the steps of a dance, so that some expansion of the melody was inevitable if the tune was to persist in the more conventional four-bar form ("Warst Carle...").
