RUNNING THROUGH THE WHITEOAKS. AKA - "Running in the White Oaks." Old-Time, Breakdown (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). "Running through the White Oaks" was the repertoire of the John Lusk Band from the Cumberland Plateau region of the Ky./Tenn. border. The tune was recorded in the field by in 1946, and again in 1949, by Margot Mayo, Stu Jamieson, and others for the Library of Congress from the playing of an African-American string band consisting of John Lusk, Murphy Gribble, and Albert York.
