AULD JOE OF HARESHAWHEAD. AKA - "Old Joseph of Hareshawhead." English, Strathspey. England, Northumberland. G Major. Standard tuning. AABBCCDD. Composed by musician, teacher, composer, dancing master and fiddler Robert Whinham (1814-1893), originally from Morpeth. Graham Dixon (1995) discovers that Hareshawhead is a farm on the Bellingham-to-Otterburn Road, Northumberland, and that "Auld Joe" is reputed to have referred to Joe Armstrong, the farmer. See also note for "The Coal Fiddle." Source for notated version: an unattributed 19th century manuscript in the collection of Tommy Breckon [Dixon].
