LOUIE'S FIRST TUNE. AKA and see "Canadian Quickstep No. 2," "Quadrille des Laurentides 4ème partie," "Reel de Normandin," "Reel des sucres (3)," "Reel Charlotte," "Reel Valcartier." Canadian, Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B. Fiddler Louis Riendeau (1900-1985) was the patriarch of a musical family of Acadian-Americans from Berlin, N.H. The tune is presumably one of the first tunes he learned to play when taking up the fiddle. Jean Duval remarks:
Louis Riendeau's version is interesting because the 2nd part is different from the usually played one. Soucy however played this (roughly) same part as a 3rd part of his "Reel Valcartier." This suggests that the Riendeau may have heard this album by Soucy.
In fact, Soucy recorded the tune four times under different titles. See remarks for "Reel des sucres" for more information.
