'''DON MESSER''' (1909-1973)
'''DON MESSER''' (1909-1973) was the most influential Canadian fiddler of the 20th century.  He held forth on CBC radio and television programs and the exposure resulted in his largely creating the Canadian "old-time" fiddle style, often called "down east" from his New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island origins.  His playing was largely un-ornamented, with simplified melody lines with notes grouped into shorter phrases.
