A man of wealth, Murray suffered no consequences due to this action and kept his association with his wife's family, one of whose relations he supported in an election at the time. Another Lady Catharine Stewart was the daughter of John, 7th Earl of Galloway, who married Sir James Graham (1st Baronet of Netherby) in 1782. She died in 1836.
