LONDON LASSES [2]. Irish, Reel. B Minor ('A' part) & D Major ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). ABB. The melody appears in the Sutherland manuscript collection of County Leitrim. This is not the tune usually known as "London Lasses" today (see "London Lasses (1)), explains New York writer, researcher and musician Don Meade, but rather a variant of O'Neill's "Curragh Races (1)." In a confusing mix of alternate titles for the different "London Lasses" reels, he continues, "Curragh Races" is printed by Breathnach as "Maid in the Cherry Tree (1)," a name that is also applied sometimes to "London Lasses (1).
