ARDKINGLAS'S DELIGHT. Scottish, Air (cut time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune appears to be unique to Glasgow musician and music publisher James Aird's Selection, vol. 3 (1788). Ardkinglas is an estate in Argyll. A castle existed on the site in the early 16th century, demolished and replaced by a manor house in the mid-18th century; by 1822 this manor house was derelict. The estate was purchases by explosives expert Sir Andrew Noble (1831-1915), who built a fine country house in the the traditional style in 1905. The house exists as a private residence today.
