EVANGELINE SPECIAL. Cajun, Two-Step (4/4 time). USA, southwestern Louisiana. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA(Vocal)BAA(Vocal)BA(Vocal)BA. The song, a standard, was named for a nightclub in Ville Platte, parish (i.e. county) seat of Evangeline Parish, Louisiana. It was recorded by accordion player Iry LeJeune in 1948, his first single, which became a regional hit and helped usher in a revival of Cajun music in Louisiana. A related song is Lesa Cormier's "Saturday Night Special."
