MAMA'S PET (2). AKA - "Mamma's Pet." AKA and see "Mother's Pet," "Peata Mamaí, "Timothy Downing." Irish, Reel. G Major ('A' part) & A Dorian ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AB, AABB. Sometimes A dorian throughout. This is the version that was popularized by Sligo fiddler Michael Coleman, from his recordings of 1921 and 1937. The second part of the tune corresponds to the third part of "Mama's Pet" in O'Neill's Waifs and Strays of Gaelic Melody, obtained from Mayo fiddler John McFadden. The first part of "Downing's Reel is the same, while the last phrase of "Downing's Reel" hints at this version; however, 'Downings' seems more cognate with "Mama's Pet (1)." "First House in Connaught (The)" seems a related, but more distanced version in the first strain. "See also Annotation:Mama's Pet (1).
