MEN FROM ULSTER, THE (Na Fir Ua Ulad). AKA and see "Norfolk Hornpipe (1)." Irish, Hornpipe. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune is the same as "Norfolk Hornpipe (1)" printed in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (c. 1883) and credited to W.H. Whiddon. The "Men from Ulster" title is perhaps Francis O'Neill's re-titling of the tune. See also the related "Bashful Bachelor (2) (The)."
Composer W.H. Whiddon is also thought to have been the composer of "Whiddon's Hornpipe", found in Kerr's Merry Melodies, and in the Adam Craig's Empire Collection of Hornpipes (Aberdeen, 1898).
