MIDNIGHT WALTZ [1]. Old-Time, Waltz (3/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. This simple one-strain waltz was recorded by west Alabama musicians Charlie (1896-1966, fiddle) and Ira (1898-1967, guitar) Stripling in 1929. The tune is made more palatable on the recording by Stripling's fiddling it an octave higher the second and third time through, and but some melodic variations, but it remains a one-strain melody.
