D Major (perhaps Mixolydian). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. See alternate title "Boll of Bear." 'Bear' and 'bigg' are both names for barley, notes Matt Seattle, who also finds a derivative of the tune in Hall & Stafford's Charlton Memorial Tune Book (1956) as an unnamed "Jigg", but set in 2/4 time.
