The reel is a variant of the popular and widespread (in its many variants) "Lord MacDonald (4)."

Source for notated version: a manuscript written by John and Tommy Gunn (County Fermanagh) at the end of the 19th century; also a sound recording of fiddler John Cathcart (also from County Fermanagh) [Breathnach].
