MERRY MEETING [1], THE. Scottish, Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was entered by Edinburgh musician into his MacFarlane Manuscript (c. 1740, p. 257), compiled for his patron, Sir Walter MacFarlane of MacFarlane. Twenty years later it was published, with varation sets, in James Oswald's Caledonian Pocket Companion, Book 7 (1760).
