FLORA'S VAGARIES. AKA - "Flora's Fagaries/Figgaries/Figarys." English, Country Dance Tune (6/4 or 6/8 time). A Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Flora's Vagaries was a stage comedy in five acts by Richard Rhodes, played first at Christ Church, Oxford, Jan 8, 1663 when Rhodes was a student there, and afterward at the Theatre Royal (1670). It was mentioned a few times in Pepys' diaries. The melody and dance instructions ("longways for as many as will") were published in London by John Young, heir to the Playford publishing concerns, in his The Second Volume of the Dancing Master [1] (editions of 1718 and 1728). It also was entered into the 1840 music manuscript collection of Waverly, Cumbria, musician John Rook.
