Back to Laddie Lie Near Me
LADDIE LIE NEAR ME. English, Scottish; Air (3/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. England, Northumberland. The song was published in James Johnson's Scots Musical Museum, vol. 3 [1] (1790) and was attributed to Thomas Blacklock (1721-91), a friend and fellow poet of Robert Burns. The tune was supplied by editor Johnson, and was not known to Burns, according to John Glen (Early Scots Melodies, 1900). The title also appears in Henry Robson's list of popular Northumbrian song and dance tunes ("The Northern Minstrel's Budget"), which he published c. 1800.
