O'NEILL'S HORNPIPE [2] (Crannciuil Uí Niall). AKA and see "Boss Clog Hornpipe (The)," "Dixon's Slide." American, Irish; Hornpipe (cut time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The hornpipe was first published by Boston editor Elias Howe in his 1000 Jigs and Reels (c. 1867) where it was entitled "Boss Clog Hornpipe (The)," a reference to a musician by the name of Jimmy Norton, "the Boss Jig Player" (since the hornpipe was in a section of tunes attributed to his playing).
