WATERS OF HOLLAND. AKA - "O Nederland, let op U saeck." Dutch, English; Country Dance Tune (cut time). A Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A Dutch song air composed by Adriaen Valerius (ca.1570-1625) adapted by Pat Shuldham-Shaw for an English Country Dance. The melody was first published in his Nederlantsche Gedenck-clanck (1626), and the lyric begins:
O Nederland, let op u saeck,
de tyt en stont is daer,
op dat nu inden hoeck niet raeck
u vryheyt, die, voorwaer,
u ouders hebben dier gecocht
met goet en bloet en leven;
want sy werd nu gantsch en t'eenemael gesocht
tot niet te zyn verdreven.
