PIUTHAR MHIC-A-PHI. A song tune to which an unknown satirist composed rather uncomplimentary verses about Cape Breton’s Rankin clan. Apparently the satire was so offensive that the sound of it was enough to start a fight at gatherings in Mabou. The Rankin’s touchiness only served to popularize the song, which became known as “Am port Chloinn’-‘ic-Raing” (The Rankin's Song). See note for “Muileann Dubh” for a similar story.
