JOHN HOWAT(S) REEL. Scottish (originally), Canadian; Reel. Canada, Cape Breton. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Kerr, Welling): AA'BB' (Cranford, Songer). A 19th century composition credited to Hugh Dunlop by Kerr. See also Dunlop's companion "John Howat's Strathspey." Kerr also prints two tunes in his name: "Hugh Dunlop (1)" and "Hugh Dunlop (2)." The reel is popular among Cape Breton fiddlers and has been recorded often.
