Under the title "Mrs. Stewart's Reel" the tune was printed in Tracy's selection of present favorite country dances, a small volume published in Dublin in the 1790's by a dancing master named Tracy. John Macpherson Mulhollan printed the tune as "Mr. Stuart of Rossie's Reel" in his Selection of Irish and Scots Tunes (Edinburgh, 1804).
