Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The hornpipe appears in the 1850 folio of the music manuscript collection of Lake District musician William Irwin (1822-1889). The name Lancaster is derived from the Roman occupation of England, with '-caster' stemming from the Latin word castra (in Old English, ceaster) and the first part of the word referring to the river Lune; thus Lancaster is the 'settlement on the Lune'.
